REPLACING THE ROLLER ASSEMBLY 87
REPLACING THE ROLLER ASSEMBLY
After extended use, the roller may wear out and will need to be replaced. It is a
user-replaceable part and can be ordered. See the section, “Visioneer Patriot
680 Scanner Parts List” on page 96 for the part number.
A worn roller can cause pages to feed in at an angle, multiple pages to feed at
the same time, or pages to not feed in at all because the scanner cannot grab
them as the roller slips on the page. If standard maintenance of cleaning the
roller and replacing the ADF pad assembly does not resolve paper feed issues, it
may be time to replace the roller.
Please note that you cannot accurately determine if the roller has worn out if it
has not been cleaned first. Excessive dust on the roller can make it smooth to
the touch so it appears worn out. You can take the roller out of the scanner to
clean and examine it before making the decision to replace the roller.
To remove the roller assembly:
1. Open the ADF cover.
The roller assembly fits in a channel in the ADF cover. You can identify
the roller assembly by its orange lock flange.
